Storage of Nepal Army weapons to start on Apr 10
Kathmandu, Apr 10: The UN arms monitors will start locking up Nepal Army's (NA) weapons at the Chhauni barrack, here, from today.
A team comprising the UN arms monitors, NA representative and Maoists will start storing NA weapons in numbers equivalent to the registered weapons of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), Kantipur FM said.
The NA's weapons will be locked in 14 storage containers.
The weapons are being locked as per a tripartite agreement between the UN, government and Maoists reached earlier.
The second phase of the Maoist's arms registration process will begin after NA's arms are stored in containers.
The UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) had few weeks earlier completed registration of Maoist combatants and their weapons. Slightly more than 31,000 combatants and 3,500 were registered in seven PLA cantonment sites around the country.
