Chennai, Apr 10: City-based SANDS India Private Limited has developed a first of its kind indigenous Integrated Substation Management System, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Energy Management System (EMS), widely used in electricity boards and industries.

These systems provides measure, monitor and control functions for substations, with the objectives of peak management at substation level, measure of power availability and supply norms to meet regulatory requirements, all at low cost.

The systems would also help to predict the future requirements more acurately, plan construction of new substations and new network to meet the objectives of "power for all by 2012," a company release here said.

"SANDS's state-of-the-art low cost substation management system compliant to international standards. The system is developed with due considerations of cost, diverse nature of consumers in India and widespread electrical network." The company had used a new technology of high speed Digital Signal Processors (DSP), a single processor-based metering system, which was sufficient to monitor and control the complete substation.

"A tremendous cost saving is possible by using this technology," the release said.

SANDS have implemented a scaled version of this system in 135 substations of Gulbarga Distribution Company in Karnataka at an estimated cost of Rs One crore, while a similar equivalent system from multinationals would cost at least Rs Six crore, it added.
