SAIL's RMD records best production and despatch of iron ore

Kolkata, Apr 10 (UNI) The Raw Materials Division of Steel Authority of India has recorded best ever production and despatch of iron ore respectively at 17.06 million tons and 16.26 million tons in 2006-07.

Individually RMD's iron ore mines at Kiriburu, Bolani and Meghatuburu achieved the best ever production striking a growth of 6.8 per cent, 3.4 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively, while Chiria mines recorded a growth of 38.7 per cent followed by 13.3 per cent of Barusa iron mine, a SAIL release today said.

To ensure availability of iron ore during the coming years, RMD has lined up several mine development projects, including those of Bolani ores mines, the central block at Meghatuburu and the south block of Kiriburu setting a targeted production of five MPTA, 4.3 MPTA and 4.25 MPTA respectively by 2008-09. Plan was also on the anvil to develop and mechanise the Chiria mine to produce seven MTPA by 2010-11, the release said.
