Police recover stolen sandalwood
Salem, Tamil Nadu, Apr 10 (UNI) More than four tonnes of sandalwood, stolen at gunpoint from an estate in the hill resort of Yercaud early today, was seized within a few hours by police.
Police sources said an armed gang, numbering about 30, came in three vehicles, locked up the security personnel manning the estate godown at gunpoint. They loaded the sandalwood worth Rs two crore in the vehicles and escaped.
Acting on a complaint, police strengthened checkposts at all vantage points, traced the vehicles and recovered the stolen sandalwood logs.
About 30 people were arrested in this connection and the van, the lorry and the tempo, in which the sandalwood was transported, a couple of mobile phones and a gun were also seized from them.
