No acquisition of agro land for capitalists: Jan Morcha

Varanasi, Apr 10 (UNI) The multi-party alliance umbrella Jan Morcha (JM) today said it would abolish the practice of acquiring agricultural land for capitalists if voted to power in Uttar Pradesh.

Releasing the party manifesto here, former Prime Minister and JM leader V P Singh said ''if elected to power we will not only abolish the practice of acquisition of farm land for capitalists in the name of development, but also make suitable amendments in law to ensure that the agro land acquired is handed back to the farmers.

''JM government will serve the interests of those, whose land has been forcefully acquired to further the interests of capitalists,'' Mr Singh promised.

The former PM said the JM government will establish a system where the land of farmers would not be acquired forcefully by government for capitalists, but the farmers can willingly sell their land to whoever they want. ''We will not force the will of the government on farmers for fostersing development.'' Mr Singh said in the first hour of ascending to power in UP, the JM will waive off all cooperative bank loans to weavers and farmers and constitute a Special Development Council to address the problem of farmers in Bundelkhand reeling under the burden of starvation and loans.

He also announced the JM is not only committed to ensuring swift payment of dues to sugarcane farmers by sugarmills in East and West UP, but will also pave way for a mechanism where the cane farmers get to share the returns arising out of processing and sale of by-products of the crushed sugracane. Efforts will also be made to provide rightful returns to paddy farmers.
