Litterateur Ananthamurthy to be honoured
Udupi, Karnataka, Apr 10 (UNI) A two-day national seminar on 'Ananthamurthy 75: Idea of India' will be held here from April 14 to honour the litterateur, who turns 75.
The seminar would be inaugurated by Jnanapeet awardee Dr U R Ananthamurthy and attended by several renowned writers, social scientists, journalists, critics and dramatists such as Dr Ashish Nandy (social scientist), Ashok Bajpai (renowned Hindi poet), P Sainath (journalist), K V Akshara of Ninasam, Dr Rajendra Chenni (critic), Manu Chakravarthy (thinker) and Sundar Sarkkai (scientist), Dr Jayaprakash Mavinakuli told newspersons here today.
The seminar would be jointly organised by Rathabeedi Geleyaru, a cultural organisation of Udupi, Academy of General Education, Manipal, Centre for Humanities of Manipal University, Karnataka Sahitya Academy, MGM College and Central Institute of Indian Languages, he said.
Dr Mavinakuli said that on the occasion, a 'Gandhi Study Centre' would be inaugurated at the college with the main objective of taking up an in depth study of Mahatma Gandhi, his principles, importance and relevance of the movement inspired by him, besides creating awareness about the Mahatma among the students.
During the seminar, several issues such as Hind Swaraj; Idea of Rural India, Idea of India : poem, Idea of India : prose, and Idea of India: development would be discussed in various sessions.
