Deaths of three pregnant women lead to tension in Jorhat
Guwahati, Apr 10 (UNI) Deaths of three pregnant women late last night at the Jorhat Civil Hospital led the angry family members to ransack the hospital today, alleging lapses on part of the doctors.
The family members of the dead alleged that the doctors did not attend to the patients, though the hospital authorities denied any lapse or negligence on their part.
A case of unnatural death was registered in the Jorhat Sadar police station by Atul Das of Titabor, whose wife Bina Das passed away at 0230 hours this morning in the hospital, Additional Superintendent of Police Mukul Saikia informed.
The hospital authorities maintained that Bina Das died as she had developed heart problem during pregnancy, which sometime lead to death in certain cases. They said there was no negligence of duty on part of the staff of the hospital.
However, Atul Das alleged that his wife had died due to lapse of treatment and no doctors attended to her last night.
Aggrieved family members of Bina Das were joined by the families of the two pregnant women who had died at about the same time as the former in the same hospital. They later, went on ransack to the hospital.
They alleged of major lapses on part of the hospital authorities, adding that their wards could have been saved if they had received proper medical attention at the right time.
The situation at the hospital was later brought under control.
