CG(East) inducts latest AOPV
Chennai, Apr 10 (UNI) As part of its measures to enhance coastal security, the Coast Guard today one of its latestacquisitions -- an Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV) from the western to the eastern region.
Coast Guard IG Rajendra Singh said the AOPV, designed and built by the Goa Shipyard, would go a long way in enhancing the coastal security as the vessel was equipped with state-of-the-art gadgets and machinery.
It was equipped with an external fire-fighting system for rendering assistance to ships at sea.
It also had a pollution response equipment and an integrated navigation system, which interfaces all navigational sensors to a central computer.
The OTO Mellara Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) on board had an anti-shipping and anti-air capability.
The ship was designed in such a away that it could help accomodate Chetak helicopters as well as the indigenous Advanced Light Helicopters.
State Chief Secretary L K Tripathy, Additional Director-General of Police,(Coastal Security Group), Jagan M Seshadri as well as the IG were present on the occasion, when the craft was inducted at a function here last evening.
