Cauvery award: Farmers Assn to approach HC

Mysore, Apr 10 (UNI) The Karnataka State Farmers Association will approach the High Court against the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final award and fight for the rights of peasants.

Inaugurating a farmers' rally against the verdict at Talacauvery, the originating point of Cauvery river, Association President K S Puttannaiah told newspersons in Madikeri yesterday that the Centre should intervene in the issue. He felt that the inter-State dispute should have been solved out of court.

Earlier, four youth began a protest march from Talacauvery.

In Mandya district, Palahalli villagers stalled the Mysore-Bangalore Tipu Express for more than 30 minutes at Srirangapatna. Pro-Kannada organisations blocked the Mysore-Bangalore expressway for some time at Pandavapura.

H Malligere Village Milk Producers and Gudupattanada Stree Shakti group staged a dharna at Silver Jubilee Park. Dharnas were also staged at Maddur, Srirangapatna and Pandavapura.

The Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi, led by its President G Made Gowda, began its public awareness meetings at Srirangapatna. Such meetings would be held in all the taluks of the district.

In Mysore, the Cauvery Kriya Samithi continued its dharna at K R Circle.
