Bomb blasts case: Judgement reserved

Coimbatore, Apr 10 (UNI) Special Court Judge K Uthirapathy today reserved judgement in the 1998 serial bomb blasts case after hearing the submissions of the prosecution and the defence.

The serial blasts, which rocked the city on February 14, 1998 left 57 people dead and 316 injured.

The first charge sheet was filed on September 18, 1998 and the second and final charge was filed on May 5, 1999.

Of the 167 persons accused in the case, one accused from Karnataka died in judicial custody.

The prosecution also named Al-umma founder Leader Al-Umma Syed Ahmed Basha as first the accused in the case.

It also named Kerala-based People Domocratic Party (PDP) Leader Abdul Nasser Maudhany as 14th accused.

After the charges were framed against the accused before the special court on October 23, 2001, the trial commenced on March 7, 2002.

The cross-examination of the witnesses was completed on January 21, 2006.
