BJP leaves it to government to take a stand on OBC quota

New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The BJP chose to remain non-commital on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's proposal to have a common ground on the OBC reservation issue which had been stayed by the Supreme Court.

At a meeting held late last night, the BJP leaders conveyed to the Prime Minister that the Government should take its own decision in this regard whatever deemed fit.

One of the leaders who had attended the meeting said they had left it to the Government to take a stand on the issue. He, however, did not respond when asked what exactly was the party's view on it.

The meeting,attended by BJP leaders Mr V K Malhotra, Mr Arun Jaitley, Mr Ravi Shanker Prasad, was part of the PM's efforts for creating a political consensus on the reservation issue before moving the Supreme Court to get the stay vacated.

Other party leaders who were at the meeting were Mr Yerra Naidu of TDP, Mr Sharad Yadav of JD(U), and Union MInisters Arjun Singh, Mr H R Bharadwaj and Mr A K Anthony.
