Bandh brings APMC activities to halt

Mysore, Apr 10 (UNI) Farmers organisations and merchant associations including trade bodies today observed a bandh opposing the proposed amendments to the Agriclutral Produce Marketing Committees Act, 1966, in the State.

All trading activities at the APMC yard on the outskirts of the city came to a complete standstill.

Mysore Grain Merchants Association President Krishnappa, in a press note here, urged the State Government to drop its move to amend the Act. Instead, the Government should take serious steps to modernise the present APMC yards in the State. Farmers were facing severe problems, including not getting a remunerative price for their produces, he added.
