Hyderabad, Apr 10 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today exuded confidence that the Centre would implement 27 per cent reservation for OBC in higher educational institutes during this year.

Speaking at a public meeting organised by Backward Classess (BC) United Forum here, Dr Reddy said the Centre was taking all possible steps to overcome the hurdles posed in the wake of recent Supreme Court's stay on OBC reservation.

The OBC reservation would come into effect in all central educational institutes by June, he added.

Stating that the State Government was implementing many welfare schemes for the benefit of Shepards, Toddy Tappers and weavers to uplift thier life standards, he said 140 integrated hostals would be established at the cost of Rs 1.5 crore each in the state to accommodate 400 BC students in each hostel.

Alleging that the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government had neglected the weavers by not allocating sufficient funds, Dr Reddy said his government was procuring Rs 50 crore worth handloom products every year since the Congress came to power.

The government was committed to provide BC scholorships to all eligible students in the state during this year, he added.
