9 drown in Yamuna

Allahabad, Apr 10 (UNI) Nine people, including two women, drowned in the Yamuna in Pipari area of the neighbouring Kaushambi district today.

The mishap took place near Sadava village, where 11 people from Rajapur area of Allahabad had gone on a picnic.

The incident occurred as a child from the picnic party slipped into the river while playing football. Eight others drowned while trying to save him, police said.

So far, eight bodies, including of two women, have been fished out, while that of the child was still missing.

District Magistrate, Allahabad, Ashish Kumar Goel and SSP B D Paulson have left for the spot.
