Villagers protest against proposed SEZ, 92 arrested

Puducherry, Apr 9(UNI) About 92 agitators, who were among the residents of Saidarapet and Karasur villagers, near here, were arrested when they put up a road blockade to protest against the proposal of the administration to acquire 200 acres of land to set up the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) today.

The villagers who feared that they would lose their fertile lands, put up the blockade on the Puducherry-Mylam road affecting traffic.

Villainur Thasildar Subramanian held talks with the agitators, but in vain. Following this, police intervened and made the arrest.
