State govt gears up deptts to face eventuality
Agartala, Apr 9 (UNI) The state's Rural and Health departments are ready to meet any possible eventuality due to water crisis caused by non-occurance of rain, official sources said today.
Rural Development, PWD, Water Resource and Health Departments are keeping a close watch on the ongoing drought-like situation throughout the state, following which water level in all the rivers, ponds and other sources gradually reduced as the state last received rain in October last year, sources said.
All the District Magistrates and Sub-divisional officers and Block Development Officers(BDOs) have been instructed to arrange for drinking water on war-footing in the state, mainly in the interior and remote areas where water crisis has been reported.
If the state do not have rain within a fortnight then there will be massive water crisis and keeping this in view, all possible measures were taken in advance.
Government sources said that the state also gave importance to the health sector and encouraged health camps to be organised in different areas of the state. Besides, helicopter will be pressed into service from April 17 to fly doctors and health workers to the interior areas for conducting health camps.
These steps have been taken up to prevent any outbreak of dysentry or water-borne disease, an official told UNI
