Six killed in Asom bus accident, rescue on
Guwahati, Apr 9 (UNI) Six people were reportedly killed in last night's bus accident at Jorabat on the outskirts of the city, police sources confirmed today.
Police said a rescue operation was on and the injured were being shifted to various hospitals across the city. It is feared the toll may rise further.
Inclement weather has affected the rescue operations.
The accident occurred when the Itanagar-bound bus fell into an 80-foot deep gorge at 2215 hrs after being hit by a goods-laden truck coming from the opposite direction at Jorabat, about 12 km from the city, police said.
There were 34 passengers onboard of which 25, including four women, who sustained serious injuries have so far been rescued.
The bus, operating under Royal Tours and Travels agency, had left Guwahati at 2000 hours last night.
The driver of the truck was among the six killed.
