Scaffolding collapse: five arrested

Chennai, Apr 9 (UNI) Five people were arrested today in connection with last night's scaffolding collapse in an IT firm in which five construction labourers were killed at suburban Thoraipakkam on the IT corridor.

Police said cases were registered on charges of lack of safety precautions and arrested Project Manager Abdul Sardar (31), site engineer Kannan (41), safety officer Manoj Kumar (25) and supervisors Chinna Rao (40) and Suraj (40).

They were produced before the Alandur Magistrate's court and remanded in judicial custody.

Five labourers were engaged in concrete laying work on the eighth floor of an IT park under construction, when the scaffolding collapsed, leading to their death.
