New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court today extended by six weeks the stay against the arrest of Orissa Director-General of Police (Home Gaurds and Fire service) Bidya Bhushan Mohanty, who is facing an allegation of helping his son jump parole.

Om Bitihotra Mohanty, the son of Orissa DGP, was sentenced to seven-year imprisonment by a fast-track court in Jaipur for raping a German tourist.

He was released on parole on November 20, 2006, for 15 days.

A Bench, comprising Justices C K thakker and Altmas Kabir, also issued notices to the DGP on petition filed by Rajasthan against the Orissa High Court judgement dated March 1, 2007, in which state High Court had held that since the offence was committed after December 4, 2006, when the time of parole expired, and the offence took place in Orissa therefore the Orissa High Court had the jurisdiction to entertain petition for anticipatory bail.

The Orissa High Court had granted the DGP anticipatory bail and directed him to seek regular bail from a Jaipur court.
