Police seize scrap containing used ammunition

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Apr 8 (UNI) The city police seized a truck loaded with 14.5 tonnes of scrap that contained empty shells and other used ammunition, near here and arrested the truck driver this evening.

Cidco-MIDC police station sources said the truck was returning to Pune after a rolling mill refused to take delivery of the scrap.

Acting on a tip off, a police team halted the truck near the Cambridge School here and seized the scrap worth Rs 4.5 lakh, the police sources said.

''Since the scrap contained empty and used ammunition of the Army, we have called the local bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) as well as the Army's BDDS from Pune,'' the sources added.

The Cidco MIDC police have registered an offence against the truck driver under Sections 286 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation is on in the case, the police said.
