Police in new role to promote literacy

Katihar, Apr 09 (UNI) Men in uniform in Bihar's Katihar district are making universal literacy mission a success when they came out of barracks to persuade the parents of non school-going children to send their wards to nearest primary schools.

Children above six years from poor parents, which are inclined to engage their wards in works to supplement family earnings, are direct beneficiaries of the cops' new initiative.

Enrolment of students in primary schools located in backward clases areas has increased considerably, thanks to the efforts of the police personnel.

The District superintendent of police, Manohar Prasad Singh, said that more than 1000 children had been enrolled in different schools of Katihar after policemen new role.
