Ahmedabad, Apr 9 (UNI) NCP president Sharad Pawar has appointed Mohammed H Janmohammed Mummy as general secretary of the party's minority cell.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Gijarat NCP general secretary Gajjukhan S Pathan said Advocate Narendra Dikshit has been appointed as city chief, while Chandresh Mistry is named as head of the district unit.

He claimed the party had got good response during Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel's public meetings at Ahmedabad, Rapar, Vapi and Unnara last month.

He said Mr Patel is also expected to attend four 'sammelans' (gathering) after April 20 as the NCP is gearing itself for the assembly poll this year. Mr Pawar will also address a public meeting in the city by month-end.

After April 20, the party will hold rallies in all the districts, he added.

Saying NCP has become the third force in the state by garnering 9.5 per cent votes, Mr Pathan said the Congress has been meting out step-motherly treatment to his party.

''We are aiming for 82 seats in league with the Congress. If Congress tries to behave overbearingly, then NCP will be contesting all the 182 assembly seats,'' he said.

Both BJP and Congress are "riddled with dissensions and many from both the parties want to join NCP", Mr Pathan alleged.

Minorities are angry with both the parties and this will be an advantage for his party, he added.
