MPSCW registers case against UMC Mayor

Ujjain, MP, Apr 9 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh State Commission for Women (MPSCW) has registered a case against the Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) Mayor in connection with the child marraige of her foster son.

Mayor Soni Maihar was not available when MPSCW member Sushma Arya arrived here for investigation into the matter. The next hearing will take place on April 17.

In a complaint to the MPSCW, UMC Councillor Rajni Kotwani stated that Ms Maihar got her minor son Sonu married to a minor girl Teena on March 29.

Several people's representatives, administrative officers and other prominent citizens attended the wedding party.

Ms Arya told UNI that prima facie, the complaint was found to be true and a case was registered in this regard.

Since the Mayor was not available today, a notice had been issued directing her to remain present during the next hearing in the Ujjain Circuit House on April 17.
