Mob ransacks Nizampura police station over rape on minor

Thane, Apr 9 (UNI) A mob of nearly 300 people ransacked Nizampura police station in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi, in the district, to protest the alleged rape of a minor by her tuition teacher.

The mob pelted stones and attacked the police last night, injuring few policemen on duty after they refused to hand over the accused, arrested on charges of raping the minor.

Police said here today, ''The accused, a 30-year-old married man was alone at his home yesterday when the victim, a six-year-old girl had come for tuition. He tried to allegedly rape and molest her.'' She raised an alarm and neighbours who came to her rescue handed him over to the police. He was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim's mother, sources said.

The police have registered an offence of rioting against the mob.

No arrests have been made so far, police added.
