Major fire destroys six plastic factories at Falta

Kolkata, Apr 9 (UNI) Six plastic factories were today reduced to ashes in a major fire at Falta's Free Trade Zone in South 24 Parganas, police said.

Preliminary reports said the fire was caused from a short circuit in one of the plastic factories, which then spread to the neighbouring units early this morning.

There had been no report of any casualty in the blaze, SDPO Debhasish Bege said.

The fire is estimated to have caused a loss of several crore of rupees, police and fire brigagde sources said.

As many as 19 fire tenders were pressed into the service to douse the flames, which were still leaping. Another factory had also caught fire when the reports came in.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the storm at midnight last night had resulted in the snapping of a high voltage overhead electric wire causing a short circuit in one of the factories.
