Khandu vows to root out corruption
Itanagar, Apr 9 (UNI) Newly-elected Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Dorjee Khandu today promised to provide people-friendly and responsible governance, which would put all-out efforts to root out corruption from the state.
Talking to reporters, immediately after the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Khandu said he would initiate measures to revive the sick state-owned Apex Bank and streamline the public distribution system. ''All the concerned officials and defaulters responsible for the present state of affairs of the bank will be taken to task,'' he added.
Stating that due priority would be attached to health, education and power sectors, Mr. Khandu made it clear that central public sector undertakings like National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and North East Electrical Power Corporation (NEEPCO) would be given preference for executing power projects in the state so that ample employment opportunities could be created.
Commenting on the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the state government and the private power players, the Chief Minister said the MoA was subject to cancellation if they failed meet the deadline.
On demand of various MLAs for creation of two Autonomous District Council comprising Tawang-West Kameng and Tirap-Changlang districts, Mr. Khandu said a resolution in this regard had already been passed in the Assembly. However, he said his efforts would be to bring the state under the sixth schedule of the Constitution.
