Jaya denies speculation over cancellation of trip to UP
Chennai, Apr 9 (UNI) Seeking to scotch speculation over the last-minute cancellation of her proposed visit to Uttar Pradesh to campaign for the Samajwadi Party, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today said she suffered injury to her leg, forcing her to cancel the trip.
Speaking after solemnising the marriages of six couples belonging to the families of AIADMK functionaries, she said there were lots of speculations in the media over her last-minute cancellation of the trip.
''Before the speculations assume large proportion, I myself will explain the reason,'' she said and added that she had planned to visit Bareli in Uttar Pradesh yesterday and all arrangements had been made for the trip.
Since an explosion took place in Tindivanam on Saturday last, she rushed to the site. By the time she returned after consoling bereaved families and visiting the injured in the hospital, it was midnight.
The AIADMK supremo said she hurt her leg while boarding the car and was unable to walk yesterday.
''That is why I was not able to visit Uttar Pradesh and campaign in support of the Samajwadi Party. There is no other reason,'' she added.
Ms Jayalalithaa also informed that she was scheduled to address a public meeting at Allahabad on April 12, but it had been postponed by the Samajwadi Party.
''After they inform me about the revised date, I will definitely go to Uttar Pradesh and campaign in support of Mr Mulayam Singh,'' she added.
