Hridyanath Mangeshkar to get Lata Mangeshkar Samman

Indore, Apr 9 (UNI) Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar's brother and musician Hridyanath Mangeshkar will be conferred with the prestigious Lata Mangeshkar award here on April 15.

The award, carrying a cash component of Rs one lakh and a citation, would be presented on the last day of four-day musical event Rashtriya Alankaran Samaroh.

The award is conferred to recognise contribution in the field of music and singing.

So far, 22 artists, including Lata's younger sister Asha Bhonsle, Naushad, Kishore Kumar, Anil Vishwas, Manna Dey, Talat Mehmood, Jaideo, Khayyam, R D Burman, Lakshmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji, Jagjit Singh and Bhupen Hazarika have been honoured with the award.

Born on October 26, 1937, Hridyanath Mangeshkar hails from a family committed to music. He is son of famous musician and dramatist late Deenanath Mangeshkar and brother of renowned singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle.

Informing about the programme, Culture Department Director Pawan Srivastava told reporters here that several artists from the music world would take part in the event.

No entry fee would be charged for the programme. On April 12, state-level 'Sugam Sangeet' music competition would be organised.

On April 13, a three-day workshop for communication between artists coming to the programme and state-level programmes will start.

Senior artists will give music lessons to budding artists on various music disciplines, including filmi, western and folk music.

Renowned singer Kalpana Jhokarkar will render performance on April 13, while playback singer Richa Sharma will perform on April 14.
