Hizbul commander surrenders in Doda

Jammu, Apr 9 (UNI) A dreaded militant and area commander of the terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) has surrendered before the Army in Doda district, an Army spokesperson said today.

The militant was identified as Rouf Ahmed alias Gazi alias Azad who surrendered in the Bhadarwah belt along with arms and ammunition, Army officials said.

Army sources said Gazi, who was active since 1998 had worked for harkat-ul-mujahideen (hm) and later hizbul mujahideen, and had escaped from the encounter in Kishtwar district last week in which three Hizbul militants were killed and another was injured.

The Hizbul militant handed over one AK 47 rifle, one magazine and some AK rounds at the time of surrender. He was being questioned, the official added.

Acting on the information provided by Rauf the security forces busted a hide-out in a natural cave at Padri and recovered two 303 rifles, seven UGBL grenades, and 20 AK rounds.
