Govt appoints senior IAS officer to inquire Sendur blast

Chennai, Apr 9 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today appointed senior IAS officer and Revenue Administration Commissioner M F Farooqi to conduct an inquiry into Saturday's jeep explosion at Sendur near Tindivanam which claimed 16 lives.

The officer would submit a report to the government within a month, an official release here said.

The one-man inquiry Commission would go into several aspects including review of existing rules and orders with regard to issuance of No Objection Certificate (NOC) for storage, sale, transporting and usage of explosives and suggest measures to prevent recurrence of such accidents.

The Commission would also recommend to provide compensation to families of the deceased and for those who suffered injuries.

It would also suggest measures to recover the damage caused to life and property from the concerned licensed owner of explosives godown, the release added.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has sanctioned an initial amount of Rs 25 lakh for reconstruction and repair of houses, which were fully or partially damaged in the impact of the explosion.
