Congress for CBI probe into CD release by BJP

New Delhi, Apr 9: The Congress has demanded a CBI probe into the release of a provocative CD targeting a particular community ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In a memorandum submitted to the Election Commission yesterday, the Congress has also demanded that senior Congress leaders Lalji Tandon and Kesari Nath Tripathi should be debarred from contesting the Assembly elections.

The memorandum was submitted by a Congress delegation which consisted of senior Congress leader and Union Minister Kapil Sibal, AICC Treasurer Moti Lal Vora and party General Secretary Ashok Gehlot.

The Congress had earlier last week demanded derecognition of the BJP as a political party for seeking to spread communal passion by releasing the CD at a press conference in Lucknow. This had led to the Election Commission ordering registration of FIRs against BJP President Rajnath Singh and others in the case.
