Lucknow, Apr 9 (UNI) The Congress today demanded the Election Commission to ban a series of advertisements issued in Urdu dailies claiming that the ruling Samajwadi Party was sponsoring it.

In a memorandum to the Election Commission and state chief electoral officer (CEO), the party said the advertisements issued by Delhi-based All-India Secular Democratic Front and Insaf Morcha carried the flag of the SP. ''This shows that the ads were being sponsored by SP. You are requested to ban the ads as the expenditure incurred on the campaign is being borne by the SP from its election fund,'' the memorandum read.

The advertisements pertain to the demolition of Babri mosque and setting up of a makeshift temple and the visit of Israeli officials to India and the ''secret'' tour of Army chief to Jerusalem.
