Chennai witnesses sharp rise in employment outlook

Bangalore, Apr 9 (UNI) Chennai witnessed a 19 per cent net increase in employment outlook growth since the last quarter, followed by Kolkata at seven per cent, Bangalore and Ahmedabad at four per cent, according to a report from TeamLease Services Pvt Ltd.

Kolkata saw an eight per cent rise in the net business outlook since the last quarter, which had been the highest, followed by Chennai at six per cent and Pune at five per cent, the report released here today said.

The report revealed that middle management hiring rose by ten per cent since the last quarter to touch 45 index points, while junior level had risen by six per cent to touch 93 index points in the current quarter.

TeamLease Vice-President Sampath Shetty said that ''with the new fiscal year setting in, business confidence looks positive with the retail industry boom taking centre stage once again.'' With the new budget not being favourable towards the IT sector, it had had its implications in the business confidence across cities like Delhi and Bangalore. Increase in rural hiring was expected owing to Banking and Financial services making inroads into these markets. BFSI, Infrastructure, Retail and Manufacturing have the maximum opportunities across skill sets, witnessing a major hiring in the junior to mid level management. At this stage, the challenge for organisations would be to match the demand-supply of manpower to optimise their market share in this economy growth, he said.

The employment scenario continued to be favourable towards urban hiring, which had increased by three per cent to touch 43 index points. The intention to hire across functions indicate a positive direction for HR and IT, both of which have increased by three per cent to touch 21 and seven index points in the current quarter respectively, the report said.
