Shimla, Apr 9 (UNI) President of the Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP Jai Ram Thakur today termed the registration of an FIR against its national President Rajnath Singh in the controversial CD case ''unfortunate'' and said it was a conspiracy by the UPA Government.

Even after the party clarified that the CD was not part of the poll material and was not meant for circulation and distribution, the registration of an FIR against the national party was ''uncalled for and unjustified'', he said in a statement here.

Mr Thakur said the issue was being raised as a part of a planned conspiracy to prevent the rising popularity of the party, which had recently wrested Uttarakhnd, Punjab, Delhi and Mumbai municipal corporations from the Congress Party.

The demand from the so-called secular parties of Left, SP, BSP and Congress for cancelling the BJP's recognition on the CD issue was clear that they were rattled by the party's spectacular victories recently, he said.

He said, on one hand, the party was being asked to reply to the Election Commission's notice and, on the other hand, even before the party had filed its reply, a case was registered against its national President.

In order to explain its stand to the public, the party today observed ''Jan Aakrosh Divas'' in the state in protest against the registration of an FIR against Mr Singh and held a demonstration outside Shimla Deputy Commissioner's Office here, he added.

The BJP President said similar protests were also organised at several places in the state.
