Cauvery agitation continues

Mysore, Apr 9 (UNI) Dharnas, protests and road blockades were resorted to by farmers and pro-Kannada organisations against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the basin regions.

In Mandya, farmers from Gopalapura, Chindagiridoddi and Maradipura along with members of the Milk Producers Cooperative staged a dharna at the Silver Jubilee park and later blocked the Mysore-Bangalore road for some time. The relay hunger strike by the Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi continued in Mandya. Dharnas were also held at Maddur, Pandavapura and Srirangapatna in the district.

In Mysore, Railway Pensioners Association members staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office against the verdict and urged the Union Government to intervene in the matter.

The Cauvery Kriya Samithi continued its dharna at K R Circle.
