Blast in Asom

Guwahati, Apr 9(UNI) Suspected ULFA rebels exploded an IED at Jorhat in upper Asom last night.

Jorhat's Superintendent of Police Surinder Kumar told UNI that the IED was planted under a truck at Baraunibat area in the heart of town.

There were no casualties in the explosion.

This was the second blast in the district in the past 48 hours.

Meanwhile, with intelligence inputs suggesting that militants are targeting the district of late, patrolling and frisking and been intensified and security stepped in the vulnerable areas.

Last evening, an IED explosion, triggered by suspected ULFA activists at Berumukh area in Guwahati, killed one person and injured 16 others, six of them critically, barely an hour after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived on a two-day visit to the state.
