Ashok Leyland delivers 250 vehicles to VRL Logistics
New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) Ashok Leyland, the flagship of the Hinduja Group, has completed delivery of over 250 specially designed 2516H multi axle vehicles to VRL Logistics.
This is against an order for 600 vehicles -- the largest single order received by Ashok Leyland from a private sector customer.
''The 2516H trucks have been specially designed for their specific requirements. We are confident that, as in the past, VRL Logistics will be able to achieve better operating efficiencies and enhanced productivity with this new addition to their fleet,'' Ashok Leyland Managing Director R Seshasayee said.
The 2516H MAV has a high power engine that allows faster turnaround and a longer loading span of 28 feet for higher load carrying and productivity.
VRL Logistics plans to purchase 1,000 vehicles this year, 800 from Ashok Leyland. Apart from 600 numbers of 2516H, 100 numbers of 12m buses and 100 numbers of Ecomet 912s will also be inducted into the VRL fleet.
''VRL has grown from being a single truck company in 1976 to a fleet strength of more than 2,500 vehicles. I am happy to say that our partners, Ashok Leyland have risen to the challenge and have met our requirements to our greatest satisfaction,'' said Mr Vijay Sankeshwar, Chairman, VRL Logistics.
Apart from customising vehicles, Ashok Leyland has been partnering with VRL Logistics to provide driver training, maintenance support and a 'Leyparts' stocking facility within the VRL premises at Hubli.
VRL Logistics has operations spanning industries like travel and tourism, courier and general cargo services with over 900 branches and 10,000 employees.
Riding on the current success, VRL group has chalked out ambitious plans to diversify into several high growth sectors, Mr Sankeshwar said.
Ashok Leyland clocked a sale of 83,101 vehicles during 2006-07, a 35 per cent growth over 61,655 vehicles in 2005-06.
