After debacle in MCD, Khurana to form Third Front for Assy polls

New Delhi, Apr 9 (UNI) After the debacle of his party in the just-concluded polls to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana now plans to forge a third front with an eye on the polls for the Delhi Legislative Assembly next year.

''I am in talks with several parties in Delhi to form a third front to fight the polls to the Delhi Legislative Assembly scheduled to be held next year,''Mr Khurana told newspersons here.

The third front, which would be formed after the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, would contest on issues of sealing, demolition, price rise, water and power situation in Delhi.

Mr Khurana claimed these issues remained relevant even today.

Claiming that people of Delhi would not get any relief from sealing despite the BJP securing a majority of seats in the MCD, Mr Khurana said,''I do not have any hope about people of Delhi getting any relief from sealing with the BJP at the helm of affairs in the MCD. Also, I am not hopeful of the BJP properly implementing the 2021 Master Plan of Delhi.'' In this context, Mr Khurana said,''today the BJP is against sealing. But where was the party when the sealing operation first began-a year ago?'' Claiming that the victory of the BJP in the MCD polls was a 'negative vote' against the Congress misgovernance rather than a vote for the party,''this is just a vote against the faulty policies and the misgovernance by the Congress. This is evident from the fact that the BJP had won just 16 seats in the MCD polls in 2002 which translated to 32 seats under the new delimitation scheme. This, despite the BJP-led-NDA being in power at the Centre at that time.'' Khurana's Bhartiya Janshakti Party had won just two seats, out of the over 150 contested by it in the MCD polls.
