Puducherry, Apr 9 (UNI) The Puducherry administration will take steps to make the system of provision of red colour ration cards to BPL families foolproof, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the legislative assembly today.
Replying to a question, Mr Rangasamy said as people from neighbouring Tamil Nadu surrender their cards and register in Puducherry, the government had now stipulated ten years residence to avail government benefits here, which would help to reduce problems in the ration card issue.
The Chief Minister also said 87,764 red colour ration cards were issued in 1997, which was enhanced to 1,20,000 in 2005.
As many as 909 government employees had obtained red colour ration cards of which 748 had surrendered and converted the cards to yellow colour. The government would issue a final warning to others to surrender their cards failing which action would be initiated,he added.
