ACB traps officials for taking bribe in AP
Eluru, Apr 9 (UNI) The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths today arrested two officials of Andhra Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries (APKVI) department here, when they accepted a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a woman entrepreneur for sanctioning loan-linked subsidy.
ACB (Eluru range) Inspector P Kanaka Raju, informing this to UNI said Deputy Director of the APKVI, Ramamohan Rajarao demanded Rs 50,000 from Undavalli Ratnakumari for sanctioning the subsidy to set up a Vermi compost unit at Nandigudem in Gopalapuram mandal recently under the Khadi and Village Industries self employment scheme.
As the woman entrepreneur was repeatedly pressing the department, the Deputy Director agreed to sanction the subsidy component if Rs 30,000 was paid as bribe.
After informing the ACB officials Ms Ratnakumari went to the District Industries centre where the khadi and village industries office was situated. When she offered Rs 30,000 to the Deputy Director, he asked her to hand over the money to the Assistant Development Officer (ADO) P Manikyala Rao.
When the woman was giving the amount to the ADO, the ACB officials caught them red-handed.
The two officials, who were arrested would be produced before an ACB court at Vijayawada tomorrow, the ACB inspector added.
