51 'nikahs' performed in Chhatarpur
Bhopal, Apr 9 (UNI) Fifty-one Muslim girls have tied the nuptial knot under the Madhya Pradesh Government's 'Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojna' in Chhatarpur district.
The 'nikahs' were performed yesterday in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who blessed the newly-wedded couples.
Public Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi, MP Kusmaria and MLA Jitendra Singh Bundela were also present, an official release here said.
The event was organised under the joint auspices of the Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Committee and the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojna.
Mr Chouhan said the Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojna aimed at helping poor and the scheme was free from reservation of any kind.
He appealed not to discriminate between boys and girls and expressed happiness over steps taken by Muslim community towards attaining modern education.
He assured that all the necessary assistance would be provided through madarssas in this regard, the release added.
