NSS launches "Sendra" against Maoists

Jamshedpur, Apr 8 (UNI) The Nagarik Suraksha Samity(NSS), a committee comprising villagers, today vowed to avenge the killing of JMM MP from Jamshedpur Sunil Mahto by launching ''Sendra''(killings) against the naxalites.

The NSS held a meeting at the football ground at Baghuria village near Ghatshila in East Singhbhum distrtict, where Mr Mahto was gunned down along with two of his bodyguards and a local JMM leader by the CPI(Maoist)rebels on March four.

NSS president Shankar Chandra Hembram and general secretary Dhanai Kisku convened the meeting, which was attended by about 250 members, including some JMM local leaders and workers.

The NSS leaders urged the villagers from the 80 villages in the district to attend the meeting but they reportedly boycotted the meeting as the Maoists put up posters in the villages, threatening them of dire consequnces if they attended the proposed meeting.

All the male members of most of the villages were reportedly absconding soon after the posters were pasted.

The area was cordoned off by police and an adequate police forces were deployed in view of the meeting.

The members of the NSS observed two-minute silence before the meeting, which took resolutions to launch 'sendra' against the Maoists and urged the villagers not to cooperate with the rebels.

The NSS also decided to erect a statue at the spot where the JMM leader was killed.

The slain MP provided all sorts of help to the organisation to cope with the naxalite menace.
