NMDC mulls setting up steel plant, pellet plant

Hyderabad, Apr 8 (UNI) The National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) is mulling setting up a sponge iron and power plant at Jagdalpur, pellet plants at Bailadila and Donimalai and an integrated steel plant in Chhattisgarh at a total outlay of Rs 9,000 crore.

Addressing a press conference here last night, NMDC Chairman and Managing Director B Ramesh Kumar said apart from foraying into iron and steel, the NMDC was planning to enter coal mining as coal was an essential raw material for iron and steel plants.

He said the company was also planning to venture into mining of other minerals like platinum, nickel and beach sand.

The NMDC had already obtained prospecting licence for beach sand in an area of about 748 hectare in Ganjam district in Orissa.
