Five killed, 10 injured in scaffolding collapse

Chennai, Apr 8 (UNI) Five people, including three Biharis, were killed and ten others injured when a scaffolding errected for raising a ten-storeyed IT park collapsed at Akkarai village in suburban Thoraipakkam on the IT Corridor this evening.

Police sources said while four people -- three Biharis and one from Andhra Pradesh -- died on the spot, another person died on the way to a private hospital.

The deceased were identified as Gopal (40), Noosloon (35), Dominic Alu (30), Laikanukolu (35) and Dhilal (30).

The injured were admitted to various hospitals.

The construction workers, engaged by the contractor, were engaged in laying concrete works on the eighth floor when one of them slipped and fell, leading to the collapse of the scaffolding.

The IT Park was being constructed by E-gate a software firm at the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
