DMK Leader refutes Jaya's allegation
Chennai, Apr 8 (UNI) DMK Treasurer and Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy tonight refuted AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa allegation that the jeep explosion at Chendur Village in Tamil Nadu was an act of terror.
In a release here tonight, Mr Veersamy decried Ms Jayalalithaa's remarks saying it was intended to create panic among people. Police inquiry revealed the explosion was an accident.
He said the explosion happened when people were trying to put out the smoke in the jeep.
On her remarks that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's family took money for appointing top police officials, Mr Veerasamy said the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Letika Saran was appointed during Ms Jayalalithaa's tenure.
Under the presnt regime none of the officials have been treated with a vindictive attitude nor appointed after taking money, he asserted.
Tamil Nadu saw five Directors General of Police (DGP) during Ms Jayalalithaa's tenure as Chief Minister. He also pointed out to several instances where top officials were intially favoured and then transferred frequently.
Asking a series of questions, Mr Veerasamy wanted to know why an incident in which a security official was reportedly found shot dead at her house was not probed.
Mr Veerasamy said in this backdrop, Ms Jayalalithaa had no authority to nitpick Mr Karunanidhi's regime which was trying hard to fufill its election promises and make the people happy.
