BJP seeks Minister's resignation over SSA 'scam'

Hyderabad, Apr 8 (UNI) BJP Andhra Pradesh unit president Bandaru Dattatraya today demanded the resignation of the State Primary Education Minister N Rajya Laxami owning moral responsibility for the alleged misappropriation of Rs ten crore funds in Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme, sponsored by the Centre in the state.

Demanding the government to order a judicial inquiry into the scam, with a sitting High Court judge, he alleged that the minister had failed in curbing the misuse of funds and neglected to take action against the officials concerned.

Speaking to newspersons here, he charged that atleast Rs 200 crore funds were swindled in the 'big scam' in the Education Department since the Congress came to power.

Alleging that a close associate of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was involved in the 'scam', he said the government had submitted a 'fictitious report' to the Centre on the utilisation of the funds allotted towards the SSA scheme.
