48-year-old arrested for peddling fake currency, Rs 50,000 seized

New Delhi, Apr 8 (UNI) Police have arrested a 48-year-old man from Nand Nagri area of East Delhi while trying to sell fake Indian currency smuggled from Pakistan and seized Rs 50,000 worth fake notes.

Hailing from Muzaffarpur in Uttar Pradesh Shamim alias Bhura was arrested by the sleuths of the Crime Branch's Interstate cell close to Nand Nagri bus stand on April 6 while making a 'deal', police said today.

Rs 50,000 in the denomination of 1,000 rupee and 500 rupee notes were recovered from his possession.

The counterfeit currency had been smuggled from Pakistan into India via the Delhi-Lahore Bus.

The accused, on interrogation, told that he had earlier been arrested twice for the same offence in Panipat (Haryana), once for smuggling arms and once for peddling drugs at Kandla (UP).
