14 new judicial court complexes to be built in Punjab, Badal

New Delhi, Apr 8 (UNI) Construction work on 14 new Judicial Court Complexes is underway in Punjab but funds amounting to Rs 95 crores are required to complete them expeditiously, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badaltoday said.

Mr Badal said the state government has released about Rs 23 crores for 2006-07 which includes Rs 105 lakhs central share.

''This scheme was on 50:50 bases of state and centre but the central share has not been coming forward during the past few years'', Mr Badal said at the Conference of Chief Ministers of States and Chief Justices of High Courts here.

The State government had taken a unique initiative to settle pending labour disputes through Alternative Dispute Redressal Mechanism.

A systematic campaign was launched to hold Lol Adalats at selected places in the state and it was possible to settle a bout 18,000 pending labour cases within a span of about one year. The results were achieved with the help of state legal services authority, trade union leaders, the employers asociations, the local bar associations and government departments concerned.

As recommended by the 11th Finance Commssion work on setting up 34 Fast Track Courts is in its initial stage and could not be implemented dur to non-availability of suitable retired judicial officers.

It was decided to establish 18 Fast Track Courts and at present, 10 Fast Track Courts are functioning.
