VHP to challenge stay on Muslims minority status

Mumbai, Apr 7: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) proposes to move the Supreme Court against the stay order granted by a Division Bench of the Allahabad High Court on the issue of the minority status of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh.

Allahabad High Court yesterday had stayed the order of a single here judgebench of the same court holding that Muslims have ceased to be a religious minority in Uttar Pradesh.

VHP National Secretary Prof Vyankatesh Abdevo today told reporters here lawyers on the VHP panel are examining the stay order granted by the court.

''Shortly, we will be filing an appeal against this order,'' he added.

It may be recalled the stay was granted by the court within 24 hrs after passing of the order by the single judge, Justice S N Srivastava.

A bench comprising Justices S R Alam and Krishna Murari passed this order on a special appeal filed by the State government against the order.
