TNAU gets Rs 9 crore grant from ICAR
Coimbatore, Apr 7 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Vice-Chancellor C Ramasamy today said the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) had sanctioned an amount of Rs nine crore to TNAU for modernising its educational and research programmes.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the ICAR's grant was mainly to channelise the expertise of the TNAU on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to other Universities in the country and strengthen the academic infrastructure in TNAU.
He said ICAR had identified TNAU as the nodal agency among all the 42 State Agricultural Universities and four Central Agricultural Universities in the country for development of e-courses.
He said an e-learning lab had been set up at the university campus at a cost of Rs 25 lakh.
A video conferencing facility also would be set up in a few months time for the students to get exposed to both national and international experts on various agricultural and related subjects.
Mr Ramasamy said a language lab was set up at the cost of Rs 40 lakh at the university for overall development of students' personality and soft skills.
From this academic year, all students would be advised to bring their laptops for which the university would arrange loans for the students. For students from BPL, interest free advance amount would be given from the hostel funds, he added.
